Raport on Chapter 1. 22nd October, 2008. Homework.

What I've learned after reading first chapter of "Organization Theory and Design" by Richard L. Daft is much more then I could contain in this report. That is why I decided to put in the center of my consideration the topic which is most interesting for me. As I like Information Technology and Computer Science as I found most interesting text about the influence of communication technologies on management. Title of this text is "The Company of the Future: How the Communications Revolution Is Changing Management" and it's author is Frances Cairncross.

Cairncross in her publication emphasis the role of the Internet in aspects of sharing information, using knowledge and managing collaboration in organizations. Main ideas of her book are building the right structure, managing collaboration and developing leadership. I agree with this but I would say that Internet will make much greater impact on the world. Global free of charge, very fast and wireless Internet is not so far future. This perspective will change not only management practices but much more. I believe that it will change the capitalism and traditional law system as much as the Industrial Revolution and Digital Revolution, even greater than invention of Johannes Gutenberg.

The idea of freedom of knowledge and sharing of culture goods has a very long tradition. It is coming back because of increasing role of Internet in societies. When Internet would enable in one click an access to any text, music, movie, scientific research, any knowledge or culture which can be transformed in sequence of 1's and 0's the organizations will consider only selling of material goods, skills, solving problems and anything which cannot be sold by restrain of sharing by license or patent. I don't believe that democratic states will enforce on society something like a digital police or secret service. That would be an absurd.

Many companies and other for-profit and nonprofit organizations realized that and they are making an effort to transform in a spirit of new times or just in cold calculation of profits. Exempli gratia IBM, Red Hat, Novell, Sun Microsystems, Intel, Nokia, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Warsaw, Department of Defense and National Security Agency of United States of America, Google, Yahoo!, even Microsoft, which is known for it's monopolist practices. This phenomenon touches almost all dimensions of humankind culture and it is constantly growing.

Are these real life examples? I suppose yes, because I'm making use of this great change in people thinking by using L'i'n'u'x as a operating system on my laptop, listening to music which license enable me to share it with anybody and learning from W'i'k'i'p'e'd'i'a - the same idea encyclopedia.

Update: Dostałem 25/100 pkt z tego, bo napisałem nie na temat. ;-)
